The one that's been most interesting has been the User Interface Design for iPhone Applications. Very informative and very useful in helping map out what it's going to get my ideas off the ground.

As there's no Flash just yet (Jobs does not heart Adobe), you have to be SUPER tight on UI design. 160 dots per inch, pinch/squeeze, finger input vs. mouse/keyboard... just a few considerations to worry about when dev'ing for the iPhone.

I think I might actually blog about each video and what I think. More to come...

Getting Close to Customers (in IT)

So I'm taking this marketing class as part of my MBA program, and one of the key concepts is getting as close to your customers as possible. If you don't know what your customers value or aren't able to satisfy those needs, then they'll go to someone else who can.

I'm always trying to apply these concepts that I pick up from school to my current role as a Desktop Engineer. So the key question here is, how do I get "closer" to my customers? Who are they? What do they value/what's important to them?

Here's what I think...

My customers are as follows (and what they care about):

- end users (quality, speed, cost, does the bloody thing work when I push the button)

- business units (test bed for the latest and greatest)

- helpdesk (# of cases)

- finance (# of licenses, # of hardware leases)

Now, in marketing they use surveys quite a bit to gather all this information, then they use multivariate regression to isolate the items that are most important. In technology however, there should be better, more systematic ways of capturing these data points... now how to go about that...

A preview of things to come

Wil has returned to blogging!
